I'm curious, why does this roster make you sad oilnate? That cap hit for Draisaitl will probably look pretty good in a few years, Franson would be a solid depth D signing, Jokinen is a good depth guy on the cheap. The defense is still lacking if they want to break into the Cup Contender Club, but a healthy Sekera will be a big boost when he's ready. That Russell deal is terrible, but if they can keep him consistently on the 3rd pairing (or press box) then he won't be playing over his head at least.

I'd say if they added another piece at forward and D at the deadline they could make a run.

Yea they're definitely cup contenders this year especially. Need to take advantage of the excess cap this year for a solid rental before McDavid eats it all up

It doesnt make me sad so much as worried that we won't take a run at a rental winger like Nash or preferably James Neal and then next year we are going to have to move one of Reggie or Russell but it doesn't seem like they will be so then it would be Nurse or Benning. Assuming we make a pickup at the deadline i love this teams chances just a tad worried thats all
