Okay let’s break the trade down then. Drury is a full time NHLer at this point, whilst Sykora is still a prospect, one that the Canes really don’t have much use for. Miller gets scratched the entire season since he won’t be beating out any of Slavin, Skjei, and Orlov in the left side, and the only shot at the roster would be at 3RD, and I don’t see Rod doing that with the defensive deficiencies that Miller has. Zib is already on the wrong side of 30, and is due for a major regression within the next 3-5 years, whereas both KK and Svech are entering their primes, and are both signed long term on damn good deals that will only look better with time. Shesterkin is a top 3 goalie, not the best, but still around the top, but goalies have historically gone for lesser amounts due to their unpredictability.
Considering that the Rangers aren’t going to even consider the notion of retaining 4.25mil for 7 years, that aspect of the trade is a moot point. And removing all the extraneous pieces leaves the trade as KK and Svech for Zib and Shesterkin. I mean, losing 2 long term top 6 pieces who will only improve, and replacing that with a top 6 piece that may only be worth his contract for a couple more seasons and a goalie (4th goalie on the roster) who will be looking for about 9-10mil in UFA, not exactly smart asset management. And the less said about the Kakko for 2 firsts abomination the better.
As for a couple of your comments, if you haven’t noticed, penalties are way up at this point in time, and many calls haven’t been good either. As for the +/-, it’s a virtually useless stat that is way too flawed. As for Zib, when has he ever been a 2-way C? Being utilized on the PK doesn’t make you a 2-way player, just look at McDavid for a great example of that.
But hey, Zib isn’t going to waive, and the Rags aren’t going to trade him or Shesterkin, and the Canes aren’t going to move KK or Svech, so we have nothing to worry about.
"If I ignore 26 million dollars of value in the deal".
Ziba is elite, end of story. KK is at BEST a low end 2C. with the retention (that you can't simply ignore) you'd probably have to include 2-3 firsts to balance that out.
Miller is a quality top 4 dman. You get bummy tony deangelo out of your lineup and/or trade someone else or flip miller for another 1st+2nd at minimum.
Kuemper went for close to 2 1sts of value. Let's be conservative and say you could get 3 for Igor via flip, or simply add a top 2 at worst goalie in hockey to a contender and build a better chance of winning a cup than you EVER would again, and trade Pyotr for assets (probably a 2nd/late 1st).
Drury is nothing but a depth player. 10 minutes a game, he's 23 and not gonna get much better. That's the most replaceable asset in hockey. Maybe he's worth a 4th similar to Lazar.
Sykora is a recent 2nd round pick, could probably be flipped for a 3rd, but definitely worth more than Drury.
Svech is a winger coming off a torn ACL. BIGGGG risk there
So here are your options after this trade:
A) have by far the best team in hockey, improving on offense, defense, and vastly at goalie in addition to gaining whatever value you can extract from Pyotr.
B) gain all the cap space from KK and Svech, and flip the assets you recieve for 8-9 first round picks worth of other assets.
But can't give up our 23 year old 0.5 ppg, analytically mid, middle 6 C, he's FAR too valuable.
