Description
By Jan 2nd sharks will likely still be looking for their 10th win.
Relegated to the bottom of the leauge Grier will be working to phones to move any players who don’t fit their plans for next year or beyond and acquire some assets.
The biggest question for the sharks is moving Duclair and Barabanov or keep them and resign them. I have hope that the sharks keep both but it’s likely one gets moved. Barabanov only goes if he gets a 1st, Duclair would be a solid add long term but with Gushin Musty and Eklund already in the stystem and likely one of Couture or Bordeleau likely sliding over to LW sharks are set, what they need is a top 6 right hand shot RW (among many other things)

if he rebounds to a 20-30 goal guy like he was in 21/22 then a 2nd is reasonable to me

Rutta is aging and not the same guy he was a few years ago, but is still a solid dependable guy on a reasonable deal.

He’s been a dependable goal scorer, though not the same guy he was a few years ago, still a decent pickup at 1/2 retained for a playoff team to get some secondary scoring.

What makes you think the sharks will do this?
Arizona doesn't want any of these players right now

If you read any of the trades it literally says team TBD! Arizona is just a placeholder because I don’t know where these players are going. These are the players I’m assuming are the most likely to be moved at some point.

One interesting wrinkle that might reduce our trade returns: we'll probably need to ask a 3rd team to facilitate a lot of these trades because contenders don't have even $2-3M in cap space to take on players like Hoffman, Duclair, or Labanc.

All that likely means is the team facilitating will receive a 4th or 5th, so in your trade projections we'd only receive one pick for each of those players (hopefully still get 2nds and 3rds but return could be worse). For example, if a team retains 50% on Hoffman, they'd have a $2.5M real salary money obligation. If you prorate for the deadline it turns out to be about $625K.

If the player has minimal value and needs retention, then we'll get almost nothing. Take the Nick Bonino trade. We gave up a 5th in that trade for a worse 5th and a 7th because the Canadiens were the ones retaining 50%. Of course that was more of a GMMG favor to Bonino, but Hoffman or Labanc could be involved in similar neutral value trades because our retention slots are near full.

If you see I have Hoffman 50% retained. Labanc I don’t see getting moved. You fully right there may be a lot of 3rd party deals this is just the bigger value trades here.
Again this is just trying to see how we project and anything after a 3rd round pick changes this very little.

I do it all the time! for this I have no clue who will be interested towards the TDL. I assume needs will be predicated on playoff teams slumping or injuries occurring and I could see us taking back a cap dump type player to make the cap work but for now this is the value I hope for, but it could easily increase.
