Yes and no! It's a risky move for Montreal because Marchment doesn't prove anything in the NHL except one season with the Panthers. He is often injured and has a 3 years contract. It could be very long if it doesn't work for him. The 3rd pick is a decent pick but nothing exceptional.

Jeff Petry too is a risk too for Dallas but a RD is a big need for Dallas and they need to be competitive NOW. The plus for Dallas is that Petry's contract is two years.

I understand it's not the kind of move that fans like but it could be a great move for both team if Petry and Marchment do the job.

The thing is that the habs are going to get rid of petry anyways, and i feel that marchment has a ton of potential and with a young core maybe he could shine a little more. But i understand what you mean, that is a very good analysis
