Quoting: Knuckl3s
Myers has shown capability in a top 4 role, just not consistently, but those inconsistencies are not his fault, they are due to the surrounding environment being in a transition phase, obviously going from the previous regime that put irresponsibly put Myers in those difficult positions to try and succeed in, to the new regime that is trying to get more out of Myers, but didn't get to bring in their new coach right away, also not their fault. You're way overrating Hakanpaa, and now you've forgotten about the salary retention. You haven't considered all factors to definitively prove that the trade would be a downgrade for Dallas
Myers has shown nothing in a top 4 role. He's been terrible. He is brutal at denials and isn't the best puck mover to equate for that. His 5v5 defensive impact has been almost non existent.
The salary retention doesn't thread the needle either. Dallas is taking on 1.5m more in CAP HIT and paying a 2nd for it just to downgrade on a defenseman who has had worse metrics than the one who has done well in their system. What is so hard to grasp about that?
I know Canucks fans REALLY want to make that Myers contract work, but please, he's not good. Stop trying to sell him as if he is.
