Description
Just curious to see wings fans thoughts on possibly adding karlsson

Wings would have 14 mill cap space . Plenty to resign seider + after this season perron, van riemsdyk, kubalik and varlamov come off for close to 13 mill so plenty to resign seider AND raymond.

Fabbri and maata come off the following year for an extra 7 mill and cap god willing should go up so I think adding karlsson wouldn’t be a problem

Here's the thing, SJ doesn't need the cap space/relief like the Bruins did giving Hall away to make tweaks to remain competitive. They're not going to be competitive during Karlsson's remaining years so they have no incentive to give him away for offers like this.

I dont know how much they’re going to get with that much of a cap hit though . Can I see them landing a 1st? Sure but I can’t see a 1st + a top prospect and a. Top young player etc... gonna have to eat up 50%

I was just quoting your description. I didn’t say anything about return. Moving Karlsson is 100% about assets, sharks don’t care about cap in the beginning of a rebuild. More retention = more assets.

The best offensive defenseman in the game at 5.75 mil EASILY returns a 1st, a high end prospect and a young NHL player. Easily.

They should do the full 50% for a better return. If MG retains 1-2.5mil he's failed.

See here the thing though; your team, doesnt make money, your attendance last year was bad and you have a player making 46 million over the next 4 years while your entering, let's politely call it, a retool. Your owners probably feel alot different about that contract than you do. So let's not pretend you're keeping him for the full contract. I'm sure Grier wants to maximize return but you won't get much because you won't be retaining anywhere near what you're suggesting. He's 33, had a career year, has had several serious injuries and still can't play defense. He's not the asset you think he is because your ignoring the cap.

They why would you even want him at 9.5 for 4 years. I know SJ isn't keeping him for that contract, trade him now while they can, but they're certainly not doing it for a pitiful return coming off a Norris/nomination. Owner is a billionaire he's stated multiple times SJ's spending despite revenue is not a problem for him.

I wouldn't and I don't. He not worth more to me than a 2nd. That isn't meant to be insulting but the Norris thing means nothing to me as it didn't the other two times he won it because he's winning on offense alone. He doesnt fit our timeline and we dont have the defenders to make up for his lack of defense.
Your owner is a business and business doesn't like to spend money it doesn't have to. Hey if you can get Edmonton to do something stupid more power to ya but it won't be Detroit. And I honestly think you, Grier and the rest of the fan base are setting yourselves up for disappointment with this talk of 1sts and prospects.

I don't think he's a good fit for the wings either.

I'm usually fine with lower-level packages that have been on here that most SJ fans say they decline. I'd generally just rather get something off this trade worth building for the future, whatever that may be, but still reasonably valuable even if its not the 2 1sts + prospects packages we see on here. He doesn't fit SJ's rebuild now and would rather have the cap space to take on bad contracts like Murray, etc.

I agree and I do think you can get a decent deal from someone but I just think we're not the right fit.

Karlsson wants a Cup. Detroit is still 3 yrs away from serious consideration. It makes NO sense for either.

Ya don’t see him coming here , was just curious to see fans thoughts. If I’m sj im eating 50% if you want to max out the return contenders aren’t capable to just fit in a 10 mill cap hit atm + it’ll increase your return by a mile and should be fine since your rebuilding for those 4 years

Then again I’m not the one who’d be signing away 22 mill
