Feel like we need another power forward in the top 6 and there aren't a ton of options since we missed out on tkachuk and meier. bertuzzi's got good underlyings and put up 30 goals last season. Plan would be for ponomarev to replace schiefele after next season but its admittedly a lot for a rental.

Damn lol I know he doesn't play defense but he did put up 40 goals this season. maybe i need to watch more jets games

Alright... as a WPG born, WPG Jets fan for life who watches almost every game (pretty busy guy, so not easy to watch all), I can tell you that Scheifele "can" play defense / 200 foot game. The people who say he can't, don't watch Jets games. This is the honest truth. "WHEN" he plays a complete game, he's freaking deadly. He's fast, big, strong and has SO much skill. He could easily be a top 20 / 25 player in the league every year if he would play a complete game. But, he doesn't. No one really knows why. If Brindamour could figure it out and unlock that mystery, the Canes would win this trade. If not, he can still play wing as well as center, is fast and can score VERY well.

I think a fresh start on a contender could be good for him. And I’d be optimistic about Brind’Amour getting through to him as a former player and great centerman himself. And the ideal version of Schiefele sounds like a great fit and exactly what we need to take our game to the next level. I’d take the gamble.
