    Pretty certain salary cannot be retained in the expansion draft.. therefore another player would still have to be selected by vegas... not sure why montreal would be retaining 2 million when they are already giving up a 2nd anyways. Why would the habs trade for phaneuf? He is overpayed and you give up a lot to get him in that trade. It is rumoured ottawa will be retaining salary just to move him.

    OK They can Retain Salary of phaneuf. .... I love Phaneuf , I think it's a good fit with MTL Also J.G. Pageau . it's not overpaid. its about cap issue.

    Honestly, even though the Canadiens may possibly look better as a team, I highly doubt they would rip apart their core. By that I mean trading Gallagher, McCarron, Scherbak, and Fucale. Not to mention the 2017 1st rounder (25th Overall).
