I don't see some of those signings working. Sheary had 53 in 61 for the team this year, which is pretty amazing even if he's on Crosby's wing, and Schultz had 51 in 78. You don't get to resign guys like that for under 4 and 5 million respectively.

Yeah but Sheary had a mostly dog s*** playoff. Maybe he'll get 3mil on the high end but no more than that. Regarding Schultz, somewhere around 3.8mil is the highest contract they have to offer him to garner 1st and 3rd round picks from whoever else would give him more since he's an RFA...which no one is gonna do. Why pay him more if you don't have to?

That's... That's really not how hockey works, man. He'll get paid because he did well and if he doesn't like the money then he doesn't sign. And teams want a young-ish RHD so they're more than willing to offer him 5 million and sacrifice and first and a third. By the way, it's the other teams that offer him contracts that choose what the comp is, not Pittsburgh. If another teams offers 33.8 to 5.5 then they'll give the comp for a 1st and 3rd, not Pittsburgh offering it to him that sets the bar.
