Description

Unfortunately I don't think Detroit does much in the 23 offseason with respect to Free agent signings. I wouldn't mind them giving Monahan a short term deal to see if he can get healthy and play some solid minutes in the bottom 6. I am hoping Yzerman can sign one of the big fish available in the 24 free agent market. I am not a huge fan of Nylander's game but I think he may be one of the top players available and Detroit needs some more scoring in the top 6. Detroit still has another 6 million to sign a backup goalie if Cossa isn't' ready or they can sign a middle 6 forward to add some more scoring.

I wouldn't take the chance on Monahan. I actually said to a friend earlier today that I'd like Nylander on the Wings but idk about that cap hit.

A problem with this lineup is it's too close to the cap with many players on their last year of RFA/UFA.
Need cap space the next year to sign Elmer, Edvinsson, Kasper, Zadina, Fabbri, Maatta and whoever else I might be forgetting.
Edit: I was forgetting Husso & Cossa/other backup.

Eh this would be an improvement, but I don’t think by much.

Don’t think anybody is going to get a deal worth more than Larkin unless you’re pulling Mathews or Draisatl out of UFA. Seider probably gets half a million more for 8 years. Yzerman just said he doesn’t really like playing guys on their offside, can’t see Wallinder doing that in his rookie year. Monahan leaves a lot to be desired for that spot, if Veleno isn’t out playing him idk what we’re doing.

This team still looks soft as hell.

I think there is plenty of room to resign the key guys. I am guessing that Detroit would move on from Fabbri, Maatta, Monahan and then trade or buyout Chiraot after the 24/25 season. That would free up about 15 million. Add the additional 6 and I think Detroit would have enough room to lock in Elmer, Kasper, Edvinsson and Zadina.

There is still a good 6 million to spend on adding pieces to round out the roster. I didn't go crazy with UFA's because it is hard to project who will be available. I do think that they need to add some toughness and they should be able to do so with 6 million. I believe Wallinder currently plays RD so I figured he would be a good fit there. They could move Maatta over or sign another RD if Wallinder isn't ready.
