I have seen this countless times from a number of different teams, figured why not. Last two Wing trades I saw featured Fabbri and no 1st rounder. If Arizona (rebuilding) is moving a 24 year old top 4 LHD for three more seasons at 4.6M, the cost will be high.
I am not advocating that I want this to happen, nor do I believe it will. I don't see JC being the answer, although he is definitely an upgrade on Detroit's current LHD. I made this to show what I think it would take to pry him away from ARZ. This is taking into account multiple factors for both teams. For example, if Edvinsson is a must for the Yotes, the deal is dead before it starts. Other aspects such as cap hit, positional need, etc. were considered.
William Wallinder - Number 2 ranked D prospect for the Wings. Beat out Edvinsson last year for rookie honors as the "junior player" of the year in the SHL. Also led the SHL in points by a junior age player, as a defenseman. Last year these two honors both went to Seider (he is not as good as Seider, just an interesting fact). Big, rangy TWD that projects as a 3-5. Going back to the SHL for one more season and already has 2 goals in 5 games. Most likely NHL ready next year, or possibly needs one year in the AHL.
(Prospect is the focal point as Wallinder is the hopeful replacement for Chychrun moving forward at the same position, at the same age range as the 500 prospects ARZ has.)
2023 1st round draft pick (top 3 protected) - Arizona is rebuilding, and this draft is supposed to be stacked. Teams trying to weasel out of a first this year won't get JC. The top 3 protected is just because I don't believe Detroit finishes in the bottom 3. Plus, with the Wings' lottery luck, chances are even if they did finish in the basement, it would slip at least 4 spots.
202? 3rd rounder (conditional based on JC. Could turn into a 202? 2nd rounder) - Arizona says 2023, Detroit says 2025, meet in the middle at 2024?
Here is where the trade branches in multiple different ways depending on the Yotes' wants. The two pieces currently give Arizona a potential top 4 D, a pick ranging from 10-20, and either another 2-3rd rounder.
If they prefer a young roster player, Zadina, Ras, or Veleno could be options. Two are 22, Ras is 23, and both Zadina and Ras improved in the last few seasons.
- If Zadina doesn't improve AT ALL from last season, he is a bargain middle six winger at under 2M (most people only like to look at goals based on being a top 6 pick) for three more seasons, while being an RFA. If he does get closer to what he was drafted for, this could be the biggest steal of a contract in the NHL. Most Detroit fans wanted him gone for scraps last year, now this year won't trade him for a number 4 RHD.
- With Ras, the main factor is what position. As a center he is inconsistent. As a winger, he was one of the better players on the Wing roster last season down the stretch. Absolutely huge, and again is team controlled at a great price. If he is a late bloomer, another steal. If he doesn't get any better, he is a decent middle to bottom 6 winger who can park in front and retrieve on the PP, kill penalties, and play the middle if needed.
- Joey V - high risk / high reward. 22 and shows flashes of why he was one of the few players to get exceptional status in juniors. Last season was his first NHL season and with limited minutes, was just okay. 66GP and 15PTS for a rookie on a bottom feeder team, as the 4th line center, with borderline NHL wingers. Did get to see a bit of action with some top 6 minutes, but not often based on lack of depth. Needs to play with skill to see how he fits in as an offensive threat.
From a value and need perspective, I think it answers what Arizona is looking for. Replacement for JC (although not a guarantee), two solid draft picks, a young NHL ready player with upside. Arizona also has the ability to showcase those younger players in a similar fashion as Max Domi and Double A in Chicago, without risking improving enough to be out of the Bedard sweepstakes. For Detroit, they get have a potential top four of JC-Mo and Edvinsson-Hronek 2023-24 and beyond.
Again, personally I wouldn't do this deal from Detroit's side, it just fits the requirements I believe Arizona would want.
Not even in the ballpark for Jakob Chychrun, Chychrun would cost us pieces that we don't want to surrender. Probably Edvinsson to start.
TB picks 31st overall, The odds of Givani Smith falling to Tampa is 0%
What do you believe the ballpark for him is? Most teams view him as a top 4 D but in a 3-4 spot as opposed to a 1-2. For teams like Detroit, he is an easy top pairing guy. He also gets a bit overhyped as he had one season putting up 40points in around 50 games. Outside of that, he has hit 26 once, but usually floats around 20. He is very good, but he isn't sell the farm good. Additionally, Wallinder right now is the number 2 LHD prospect in the Wings pipeline. That pipeline ranks number 2 in the NHL. Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Buium, Viro, Sebrango, McIssac are all LHD. Not all of them will pan out, and even if they did, not all of them can play on one roster.
The TB G. Smith signing was listed in the description. I think he would get claimed, just hard to say who would get him first. I only put TB because of the SY connection and the fact Gemel was there, came here, went back.
Sounds like Bill Armstrong wants a very good prospect a 1st round pick and is willing to take on a cap dump for Jakob Chychrun. Honestly i wouldn't do more than Berggren+Johansson+Detroit's 2023 1st round pick ( Top 10 protected ) Both Berggren and Johansson are NHL ready. But other teams around the league would easily offer up better deals. Yzerman had inquired in Jakob Chychrun and he said the price was just too high for him.
While William Wallinder is a LHD he prefers the play the right side, Could see him taking Filip Hroneks spot one day should Yzerman decide to move Hronek elsehwere for more help.
Interesting I must have missed him stating that about inquiring on JC.
I know WW has played both, but I didn’t know he preferred the right side. That would eliminate him as a trade candidate for me. Edvinsson, Johansson, Buium, Sebrango on the left with Seider, Wallinder, Lindstrom, Tuomisto on the right (assuming Hronek is gone that is).
Essentially I just wonder how things shake out with all of the LH prospects. Buium looks like he could be a 3-5, I like Johansson a lot but I can’t see him beating out Ed,WW,Buium. Mix in Sebrango and McIsaac who both probably have a ceiling of 5-7.
I just made this because I’ve seen spare part offers for JC, as well as one I saw that was Edvinsson, soderblom, and two firsts.
Actually TB picks 25 it goes by points at the end of the regular season last year until November 1
If Smith were placed on waivers, he'd still be taken before 25th. His value isn't high but he's still a scrapper and can still occasionally score a goal.
