Really...from an Oilers fan who still thinks of Reinhert and Hopkins as top picks I would assume.

You're trading an above average d man in tanev for RNH Reinhart AND the drake like get real man that's a horrible trade for the oilers

Not saying tanev is bad. He is a great d man. If you'd do a RNH for tanev straight yes but there's no reason the oilers should add to that trade

Reinhart is straight trash, and caggiula won't ever be an every day Top 6 forward

My point. Tanev >> RNH. Reinhert is unproven and looks to be a bust and Caggiula is a bottom 6 forward. Oilers need to add to get Tanev. There are no free agent options in the price range that the Oilers would need to spend. How can an Oilers fan talk about value when Hall was traded for Larrson? That is clear evidence that quality dmen with low cap hits have immense trade value. IMO this is an easy trade for the Oil to make given what they need to win a cup.

Oilers would not trade RNH for Tanev. Eberle maybe. And, you're correct Dylan, this trade would never happen as this user proposes. RNH is future Selke-type player, they haven't given up on Reinhart, Tanev is a 2nd pairing D who blocks a lot of shots and gives you steady. Don't see where this adds up. Also Sedins aren't going anywhere, full stop. They end as Canucks. No getting around it. Rangers 1st rounder plus two regulars for two over the hill forwards who are retiring? Ridiculous.

"One must ask the question: with lacklustre numbers, as well as a -10 rating this past season metrics, is Nugent-Hopkins losing his touch?"
"Edmonton needs from him is the offence that was promised when they selected him first overall. He must get back to his consistent numbers, and though injuries have plagued him, he must get his touch back. Additionally, the British Columbia native must get better in the face-off dot. Nugent-Hopkins only wins about 43 percent of his draws."

I can keep going but for you to think he is a "Selke-type" player is silly. RNH is a top 6 player but not one that is worth the $6m price-tag and not one that EDM needs. EDM needs a quality defenseman with a low cap hit. How can you argue about trade value when you more than anyone else should know the cost of acquiring d-men with low cap hits that have some term. RNH is not Taylor Hall and Tanev is not Larrson but in this framework, the trade makes sense.

As far as the Sedins go, NYR needs to move one of their d-men.

"Defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal are buy out candidates. The 33-year old Girardi has three years left on his contract at $5.5 million per season. The 30-year old Staal has four years left at $5.7 million per."

This trade gives NYR potentially the missing pieces to make a cup run. One year left and a low-risk option given the age of their core.
