This teams prospect pool is already so bad, removing a first rounder for a deal that doesn't help us at all for at least 2-3 more years is terrible usage of Miller. We're getting a quality prospect in Nemec, but there's better usage of miller trades out there. Especially one that doesn't involve us moving futures.

And then we have a first leaving again. We've used 1 first in the last 3 years...

Giving up a 1st for Nemec is so worth it, are you kidding me? Our prospect pool isn't even the worst in the league

Our prospect pool is ranked like 28th range on almost every ranking. And it makes sense. We have next to nothing outside of Lekkermaki.

But while I agree I can see this trade as being beneficial, I just don't think we should throw away futures to acquire "a future" When we can get futures and roster players for Miller. Yes they will not be Nemec level. But they will by no means be a bad prospect.

It’s decent, in all honesty, considering Miller is signed to an extension, and with Bratt going to the Nucks, NJ would certainly have enough cap space to do so. Even though Nemec may not be an impact defenceman right from the start, he’s an elite defenceman and will be throughout his career, no doubt there.
He could play on the 2nd or 3rd line for the first and second year in Vancouver, then play on the 1st line with Hughes. He’s an RHD, exactly what the Canucks need. If this trade was to happen, the Nucks would probably trade Garland to make space to sign Bratt. Even though giving up a 1st is not on Vancouver’s agenda, it’ll probably in the 20-32 range considering the Canucks will be a playoff team by then and could be cup contenders (unless Nemec and Bratt are both flops)

Devils would never trade this much for a 30 year old rental

The other Elias Pettersson looks rather intriguing to me, plus you can't discount Aidan McDonough, Danila Klimovich, let alone Rathbone or Lockwood. Even some longer term projects like Jonathan Myrenberg and Viktor Persson look somewhat intriguing. I know most of those guys don't have particularly high ceilings outside of Lekkerimaki, but getting a depth player or bottom of the lineup player out of somebody homegrown is better than nothing
