Rationale behind each trade:
1- Varlamov has one more year until hes an RFA and is now a backup to an (arguably) top 5 goalie in the league. Shaving 1.2 Million off the books, hopefully getting a bounceback candidate in Mrazek, a young 4th liner in Joey Anderson, a B-/C+ prospect and a 1st seems fair IMO.

2-Kerfoot for Puljujarvi makes sense from the Leafs end of things, especially if Kerfoot resigns and I think although the Leafs may have to add a bit perhaps, this trade can make sense, especially since Holland seems intent on giving up Puljujarvi for less than hes worth.

Re Free Agents: Malcolm Subban always plays well in TO, maybe that is a fit?
For Nick Paul it may be a slight overpay but worth it after what he has showed in this playoffs.
