I get its just for a comical thing here, but i honestly dont think this team could beat the current Edmonton oilers. It would be solid to have Mcdavid, but this team just wouldnt be all that great.

I am not arguing that this is something they should look at or try to make happen. I don't even think it would be possible to pull off. I think both sides say "no" to the trade. I was just curious if we put together a semi-realistic trade for McDavid, were willing to spend to the cap, and were willing to trade away more futures, would we even be able to put together a competitive roster after trading away our two best roster players, two best prospects, and the 8OA pick in this year's draft for a single player, even one of McDavid's abilities. I was a bit lazy with the LD trades and kept in the same ones doing the rounds for top 4 capable guys who won't wow anyone. I still don't think there is a UFA LD that would make much sense in a top 4 role, let alone trying to fill both from free agency. I don't think Wallinder or Johannsson will fit into the top 4 this year, either. It was just meant to be a fun exercise and learning experience and nothing to get upset over. After putting it together, I thought maybe it was post-worthy. This tells me that you might be able to put together a playoff team, but probably not a cup contender.
