Description
Next year Plekanec's $6,000,000 and Markov's $3,500,000 is split between Tavares and Price.

Tavares' new deal $9,750,000X8yrs=$78million until he's 35 years old.

Price's new deal $9,000,000X6yrs=$54millon until he's 36 years old.

That's leaves $2,500,000 of the original Plekanec and Markov deals, which came off the books, to use elsewhere on the roster. Kulemin's $4,187,500 and Kunitz's $1,500,000 and Del Zotto's $1,400,000 and Kulikov's $1,000,000 come off the books as well.

I don't think it should take that much to get Kovalchuk, at the end of the day Kovalchuk is still a free agent and he basically gets to decide where he wants to go. Say for example Arizona offers, Keller, Chychrun, and 3 1st round picks... New Jersey would obviously be all over that, but Kovalchuk probably has no desire to go to Arizona so that isn't an option. If Kovalchuk is interested in signing in Montreal, he can veto every deal NJ makes until he goes to Montreal. That my understanding of the situation at least... here is a link to the details of a Kovalchuk return http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/ilya-kovalchuk-wants-return-nhl/

I like that deal for JT, I am also thinking Galchenyuk and Gallagher would likely be key pieces in that trade. I wonder if that would be the best offer available for the Islanders though... JT's no trade would help since it limits the bidding war to only a few teams. Have to think that Montreal would be on his list, he's seen first hand how good Weber and Price are with team Canada, and the team has a giant hole at #1 C. Seems like the kind of player that would thrive in a huge hockey market as well.
