He still has time before he is classified as that. Blash's system has not been kind to him. Boeser is overpriced for his current production and is due a big qualifying offer that is above his play. Vancouver needs to get rid of overpriced players and needs cap space. Zadina is underperforming but is young and would probably flourish under Baudreau. Both players have knocks against them and are in less than perfect situations. I think under these circumstances a 1 for 1 trade makes allot of sense. Vancouver gets allot of cap relief and a younger player with great scoring potential for a low cap hit and doesn't have to negotiate with Boeser in a tenuous situation. Detroit gets a player that is a little older with better production but is due a qualifying offer that outpriceces his play and has to negotiate with Boeser for his next contact.

Vancouver only has 2 or 3 overpriced players, they have no urgency to move a guy like Boeser. He can sign a long-term deal at a lower number, the market for Boeser is very healthy, can't say the same for Zadina

And Canucks management WILL do something to give themselves a cap cushion, they've already confirmed that much
