Please read then comment, I know I'll get lots of people not reading and just tearing the Oshie trade:
So starting with the moves - Beau is poached obviously
Oshie is traded for: I KNOW that the trade doesn't look like conventionally fair value, but we're talking about a scenario where Washington decides not to resign Oshie due to other expiring contracts (in there defense). With that in mind the fairness IMO is pretty close, Lehkonen is a roster prospect that will look to take a next step and Gally is a good contract that hopefully gets his value back up the remainder of this season (playoffs). The linchpin is Oshie not wanting free agency and believing the value of 6 for 4 (or 5) is acceptable. It's fantasy but IMO this deal isn't outside the realm of possibility and is what the Habs need in the top 6. No risk as it doesn't get done unless Oshie is already on contract.
Shaw is traded because no team wants penalties at the dumbest possible times quite as much as Philly (hopefully his value is higher than what I've traded for but I honestly wouldn't blink on this one, his term and current play bothers me)
Otherwise it's signing Yakupov to see if Galchenyuk and him rekindle (at a relatively low cap). Sharp is a character/vet who, assuming returns to health after surgery is a depth move that may really augment the top 6 scoring (I believe he was headed to Montreal if not for the injury this deadline). Bonino is a speedy center who has shown past ability to slot up in the lineup, should go well with Byron.
Otherwise I have Ott and King resigned, this is based on how they look in Habs jerseys (Ott needs to find his game and show the value in Faceoffs for us, King needs to show he can throw the body and not be a liability, McCarron is a mix of both and we'll see how this line fairs)
Defense isn't much different, Markov is resigned because he's a lifer and can still get it done (at a reduced cap, To me both sides should be able to agree on something close to this with the understanding that he will have reduced ice)
That ice will be picked up by either Kulikov (proving himself on a 1 year) or Sergachev (depending how he has developed, we burn a year if he plays a full season so there isn't a hurry here). IN the Sergachev event Davidson is moved for a pick to clear the cap for a spot. I still have Nesterov but am not sure if he slots above Davidson. I would also seriously consider Daley instead of Kulikov if the price is right.
Important to note that Plekanec was bought out to get out from that contract, fairer to him so he can still play for another roster (this is done assuming he wasn't tradeable). His 2.6 retained cap along with the expiring 7 will buffer in resigning Price for what he gets. I hope he takes a nearer to sweetheart deal (8-9) instead of the 10+ he could command. We'll see...
