Carolina Trade - Carolina has a gluttony of skilled defencemen and Hanifin appears to be odd man out on the third pairing with Haydn Fleury waiting in the wings. Jets have a gluttony of forward prospects to offer up in exchange. Jets get - Future top 4 LHD (with Morrissey), Carolina get - Two quality forward prospects in Petan and Lemieux, a top 40 pick and Stuart.
NYI Trade - Myers and Hamonic are both injured and have had rough seasons. Hamonic moves home to right his ship and Myers gets a fresh start in NY. Pavelec and Halak are a wash, both need new environments, jets pick up an extra two years of contract. The Ladd inclusion is the wild card. Snow has to know that he overpaid for Ladd and will be regretting that contract for 7 years (see DePietro). Jets give him an out at a $2M/yr premium and throw in a promising young goalie to ease the pain. Ladd is reunited with Little and Wheeler and hopefully find his game.
Islanders pass on the deal. 2 million in dead space for the next 6 years is terrible cap management. Islanders literally have 45 goalie prospects. Trading for Myers doesn't help their expansion problem when it comes to defense.

Fair enough. Is Snow taking much heat from the local fan base on the Ladd contract?

One could contend that paying Halak another $9M and Ladd another $33M would also be a detriment to the team's cap management.
I like the end results. The defence looks solid and an extra season of Halak should buy Hellebuyck and Comrie time to develop. Contract is off the books before Laine needs to resign. Carolina trade makes sense. Not sure NYI are any better but they could use the saved money elsewhere I suppose.

Snow takes flack from NY fans/media no matter what. He could build a cup winning team they would complain that Alan Quine got minutes on the PP. Fact is this team is in limbo until this off-season and the JT situation is dealt with. Halak/Grabo/Kulimen are all up at the same time JT's is. The cap room is there for him and room for raises for key players.
Ladd has clearly turned a corner under Weight. Maybe he is healthy, maybe he finally settled in. Fans are seeing it. He will get his 20 goals. Fans are more upset about the NMC then they are the value.
