Description
Kerfoot is exactly the type of center that Edmonton needs. He comes in at a price that they can easily handle and his price/skillset mean he is flexible enough to play 2C/2LW/3C/3LW/4C. So they can be very flexbile with their deployment of the big two.

If we make the Kerfoot trade before the expansion draft then we'd be leaving exposed Dermott has our top D and Mikheyev as our top forward. We throw in Engvall and drop from a late 2nd to early 4th (about 40 spots) in the draft to make sure we keep Dermott (could be key if Rielly leaves in a year). For Seattle its similar to the moves Vegas did with Florida, taking punts with multiple players who could break out and getting some picks for future talent.

Spezza has said he wants to resign.
Galchenyuk resigns at league min to get a year to establish himself in an NHL lineup. I think he will get better offers but Toronto gives him a chance to get a longterm contract next summer by playing him in a situation that works for him.
Foligno is the biggest question mark. Many reports he will go back to Columbus but Chris Johnston mentioned he may stay in Toronto for a year given that he really wanted to play for Toronto, pushed for a trade here and has his dad's legacy. His wife is also from Ontario, so it could make sense for him to give it a year to chase a cup in Toronto and see how the rebuilt pans out in Columbus then he can return to Columbus or stay in Toronto and fill a Spezza type role for the next 4-5 years for either team.
Bogo stays as depth, it was a good fit and I'm not sure he gets crazy offers elsewhere. (He also mentioned wanting to pay in Toronto since he was in Buffalo).
Dermott gets another year to show what he can do, a decent season and he can get a Holl like deal.
Reimer is very similar heart/soul type goalie who is a great team player, should be able to complement Campbell well and has been playing in a tandem for years. Also has personal ties to the team/city.
Cogliano is from Toronto and a great depth guy
Perry wanted to play here last year and he said no. Maybe we can bring him around this summer. He showed what he has and we could use that.
Bozak is a cup winner returning for some depth
CJ mentioned that Hall wanted to come to Toronto at the deadline and Dubas wasn't interested, maybe we can make that right and bring him in on a one year deal, see how it goes and take it from there. He seems more motivated by where he plays than money so this is possible and fits the cap structure.
Hyman contract is a hometown discount, not sure if he accepts it but it would be nice if he did to keep the core together.

Overall idea was to add more secondary scorers, two years in a row we've lost when Matthews/Marner/Tavares can't score. Now we add Nylander/Hall/Perry/Robertson/Hyman/Galchenyuk/Bozak as secondary guys who you expect can score consistently. Foligno and Cogliano both are top playoff performers so keep the edge that Dubas was looking for with Thornton/Simmonds but with more effective players.

On D its the same as this year, we didn't struggle to much. Reimer replaces Freddie to save some cash and add more character to the room.

I don’t hate it….. but I find us getting Hall very very unlikely especially that cheap and only for a year, Boston has the option to give him long term and he did fantastic with him, logically he stays in Boston.

Yea, we could go for another big name like Ovi/Landi but both are way more unlikely. Apart from that Saad is a secondary option, Tatar, there are a few that would make some sense on a 1yr/5-6.5M deal who could have some strong secondary scoring. Hoffman as well.
