Both teams say no. Carolina would be in a cap crunch after this, and Buffalo could probably get more for Eichel.

not probably - would (should) get more. Honestly, Carolina has a good solid core of young forwards - if I'm Waddell or Canes fan, I'm looking for the "right" players, not the best players to supplement the core that is there now.

If they get Eichel, they still half to resign Svech and Hamilton which won’t be cheap.

I think that Buffalo stole from the canes in this trade
