If the Jets were close to contending then it could be an option because it could give them cost certainty and leadership to put them over the top, and right now Stammer is better than Laine, but you don't make this trade when you're in the Jets position where they need a lot to compete. If TB is actually interested in trading Stamkos it could make sense to have one more year to contend as favourites, but they're going to be even tighter against the cap when Laine needs a new deal so in the long run it doesn't make sense for them either.
