What works better for Toronto? Dermott or Kerfoot in that deal?

The canes trade is interesting. I think its unlikely they do it because it would leave them with Hamilton as their only RHD. Slavin is always going to be 1 on the left so you would slot Reilly 2, this would mean one of gardiner, Skjei, or Bean in the third spot. That would mean 2 of those guys would need to be moved and they would have to acquire a 2nd pair rhd

Here's why Canes wouldn't do this:
- Reilly is a downgrade from Pesce,
- would pay $1 mil more in salary,
- would have Reilly for 2 years compared to 4 years for Pesce
- lose a RHD for a LHD when already overloaded with LHD talent

Holy heck those trades are not good. Pesce is an excellent player who I would love on the team, but it makes no sense to deal our best D when D is our major weakness. The other two... yikes. Major yikes.

You add Pietrangelo and Pesce and only lose Rielly so the D is very improved.

The Ranger Deal is very good value on both sides

The Flames deal is an overpayment but can easily be balanced with a pick.

Kefort would probably be better for both teams

I was thinking more about would you move Riley if it meant getting Pietrangelo. Pesce/Canes could be interchanged with a different RHD/team

Your last two trades basically get us a goalie with less than 100 games played who doesn't even have a contract, and a guy whose best season of 36 points came 4 years ago... and for that you give up a bonafide starter, our 3C (who has almost the same career points as Bennett in ~60% GP), and I'm gonna stop there because even without considering Dermott and Johnsson this is really, really bad... I get that moving salary is needed if looking to sign Pietro, but there are much, MUCH better deals to be had out there.

I disagree, but Reilly is very good. They are both top 4 players. But 2 years of Reilly is definitely not worth 4 years of Pesce. Not even close.

Pesce and Slavin are both on ridiculously good contracts. They always make their linemates better. The Canes know this. It almost makes the two untradable (unless it's just a massive return).
