I would say that’s debatable. Personally I would put him there. Toronto is not an easy place to be a goaltender, even with good defence. There is a ton of pressure and he has been awesome.

You could argue any of the top 20 goalies into the top 10 really.

I agree you could argue it, but the fact of the matter is, we're not the ones deciding this.

and if trades have already been going on, and this "andersen for a 1st" hasn't happened, it would be safe to make an assumption that nobody feels he's worth a 1st (or possibly Toronto thinks he's worth more) and I don't know how many top 10 goalies get traded for spare parts or 2nd rounder.

Regular season is only 2 months away, trades are already happening so everyone can start getting ready (moving families, prepping for training camps, etc..)

I would say his value should be just a bit more than that of Allen’s but one detail. Andersen costs 1/4 of what Allen does. This makes him attractive to teams on a budget.

Does that turn a 2nd and a 3rd into a 1st? I’m not sure. I certainly don’t think you get the Toronto pick back.

Cash is definitely important, but it still comes to, Carolina spent $87M on while being at the ceiling.
So, I don't think cash is that important to them, their big problem with trading for a goalie is, they already have 2 at $3-ish million each, both with salary almost matching their cap hits.

we'll see how this goes, problem is, free agency is likely beginning of october with the season starting a month later, I'm anxious to see the mad rush for FA's with a flat cap.

That was before covid hit. Canes gave Aho nearly 10m in July 1st with no ticket sales and none on the immediate horizon. Yes they are willing to spend on the team but how much are they willing to lose?

I think that applies equally across the board to all teams, Toronto has the highest ticket prices of any team, but if there's nobody attending or provincial limitations on gatherings in "second wave" situations, then no income - expenses in USD +/- FX issues.

US election years have a tendency to affect Canadian foreign exchange as well, so, there are a ton of political and market factors that can impact decision making.

I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon, the point being, it's like the stock market, the value of a stock and the ability of the company to generate cash flows are two different things.

Their cash flow is just fine. The last two teams to fold in the nhl will be the leafs and the rangers.

As far as supporting the team they have no issues. This also goes for all staff and medical centres. If there’s no fans for 2-3 years then I can see them dialing it back a bit. The leafs budget is far more extensive than just the team.
