Description
With Subban Trade, and Price UFA in 2 years, Montreal's window is right now. Go "all in" and worry about the rebuild when Price leaves.

Even trade down at drafts for more picks and take high risk high reward picks (Reway, Hudon, Gallagher).

You really think the Rangers would retain almost half of Nash's salary????

You're giving way too much for the guys you want in return. It's not worth it especially with having barely any capspace after all that. One guy guaranteed you're not getting for what you're giving is Faulk.

Scottclev, not likely. But the reasoning is they are going to need to rebuild ASAP and have dealt away most of their picks in recent years. So I tried to make a deal that could kick start their rebuild. In a rebuild, cap means nothing to them, so it would come down to "Are Rangers smart enough to rebuild now? or will they let their assets leave on their own?". Also, a potential starter, top 6 winger, and current NHL defenseman plus 2 high picks is far too much for Nash, but not if Rangers eat cap in return.

E_Meens71, no, but I think its pretty boring seeing 37 Montreal Canadiens rosters with 1 or 2 minor tweaks. Also, Bergevin finally made a big trade, so maybe he's getting comfy in his big boy pants.

thearchitect, every fan over values their players, so in the attempt to "make fair" I threw in more picks than I would like as a Habs fan. As for Skinner and Faulk, I thought 2 middle 6 youngsters, a potential top 4 defense prospect, roster fillers and 3 high picks would at least get some discussion as to what is fair. Carolina could make the deal and still have Hanifin, Fleury, Pesce, Slavin, Bean plus adding Juulsen.

Majk99, I think Montreal should worry about Cups while Price is still here, not transitioning into the next rebuild in the best shape.

Thank you for the comments, looking forward to replys.

I agree with your window opinion. IMO this was MB´s intention trading PK.

I really like the Nuge deal also this is an overpayment. Nuge would be the future Pleky.

The Carolina deal is not bad, but I would try to keep Sven or Daniel and one of the 1st round picks with no money retain.

But I don´t unterstand the Rick Nash deal.

Right now, I don´t see Carey leaving. IMO if the Habs will make two deep playoff runs, Carey would stay (between $7.5 and $10 million)

Nash had one bad year. He isn't Nash from his Columbus days, but he can still bury the puck. The overpayment is for the Rangers to buy half his contract for 2 seasons.

If Carolina doesn't retain cap, this roster is impossible. In total there is over 6M in retained salary, and the roster is barely under the 73M limit.

I don't think Carey is alright with the direction of this franchise. Montreal just wasted 3 years of the core's prime while adding nothing to boost them to a Cup other than Petry, who was a deadline deal that Subban and Price talked into staying. If Price wants a Cup, and this roster can't win it, I could see him going elsewhere. Remember, this is still the same crazy city that he can't go get his own groceries. Its still the same city that had fans dumping all over him early in his career. Price owes us nothing, he has no reason to take anything less than $10M, and if he makes $10M, we can't fit a Cup team under the cap.

I wouldn´t have done the Nash deal, so I wouldn´t need the retained salary by Carolina.

I totally agree with the 3 wasted years and the not boosted roster.
But this was not only the fault of MB. It was the fault of the players, too.
IMO the 2015/2016 roster was overpaid between $3.5 and $5 million. Now take this $5 million, the Semin money and the free
cap space last year and you could have boosted the roster with two top 6 wingers.

Its MB job to find those top 6 players though. Instead he loads up on depth players (doesn't even allow the kids to make the opening night roster) and floats a prayer on players like Semin to be amazing instead of getting the sure things.

Radulov was a great signing, as he is still playing great in the leagues/tournaments he's been in. We still need another at least, or give Hudon or Lehkonen get a shot at top 6 (in Hudon's case, 1-2 years too late)

I totally agree with you, but without enough free cap space it isn´t easy to sign top 6 players. Maybe Lehkonen will become Montreal´s Panarin

Season 2016/17: Playoffs (Second round)
Expansion draft (hopefully Emelin, not because of him but his contract)
Season 2017/18: Spending a lot of money and a deep playoff run (maybe even cup)
