Deep Dive Into Expansion

Description
Let's really look at the expansion and realize the reason for the Pens inactivity this offseason. If I am understanding the expansion rules correctly then the draft will take place before the new player entry draft therefore before RFA and FA period. This means they wouldn't worry about losing Murray or Dumo or any other priority RFAs.
8 skaters 1 Goalie
Sid, Geno, Phil, Hage, Horny, Rust, Kuhnhackel, Maata, Tanger, and whichever goalie would need protection.
Leaving Fehr, Cole, and Wilson to expansion.
And last but not least the Fleury situation. I would assume he gets traded midseason so I'll take a guess at a trade partner. Oh ya and then enjoy free agency!

      Just asking but are free agents not available to be drafted? Cause if so why wouldn't Vegas take a guy like dumo. Not suggesting we protect him but still a possibility.

      Vancouver wouldn't consider fluery trade. They have no need considering they have demko to come in after miller's contract is up

      Couple of things:

      1. There are two options for protection... 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie, or 8 skaters and one goalie. The Pens are almost certainly going to choose the first option as I don't see any defensemen beyond Letang, Maata, and Dumo that need protect, and then Pens can then protect 10 skaters rather than 8.

      2. RFA status has nothing to do with the draft. The ONLY players that are exempt are ones that have two years or less of professional experience (including AHL). Sprong is a good example. He will only have one year under his belt. Other good examples are Dominik Simon and Jake Guentzel.

      Murray, Sheary, Dumoulin, Pouliot, Rust, Wilson, and Kuhnhackl are ALL eligible to be taken.
