Pesce's a really good player, with a beautiful contract, but he's not in the top 10 RHD. Marner is in top 10 RW. Canes accept this deal and runnnnnn

I doubt the Canes would take the deal. Marner would take up the salary of both Teravainen and Pesce plus what little cap space they have. Then they'd also have to fill Pesce's roster spot. Marner isn't a big enough upgrade over Teravainen to justify that. Especially with Teravainen and Pesce on nice contracts for the next 5 years.

What's the difference between Marner and Teravainen? 18 points last year? Is Aho as good as Tavares? No. Did the Canes have scoring depth? No. Are Marner's totals inflated because of his centre and the team around him? Yes.

Marner and Teravainen are very similar players but one makes 5.4 and the other is asking for more than twice that. And then Pesce is in there too.

This trade is an amazing win for the Leafs and great example of how narcotic the hype machine can be around Leaf players versus a small market like Carolina.
