Description

The more you look at the numbers, the less sense Burakovsky qualified for $3.25mil makes. He just eats up way too much space and I think the Caps would seriously handcuff themselves with bringing up ANYONE besides Gersich. Every other possible guy (Alexyev, Geisser, AJF, Snively) are all over 900k.

I trade Burakovsky to Montreal because they have a lot of cap space with not a lot to sign. I think Armia is a guy who could play RW on the third or fourth line.

GMBM said he wanted to upgrade the Caps 4th line. I think Tanev will be more expensive than most guys, but less expensive than a lot of the RW options out there. He can also play 3rd or 4th RW and be comfortable.

If that's what it takes to sign Tanev, the Jets would have done it already. Unfortunately, I think he will be in the 2.5m-3m range on a 3 or 4 year deal.

He may make more on the open market, but I don't necessarily Jets sign him for that term for double his cap hit. I always thought he was attractive to Winnipeg because he was pretty cheap. And they now have a lot of RFAs to sign.

You may be right though. The UFA market, IMO, might be tougher on guys like Tanev because of the lower cap ceiling.
