| - | Franchise changing player with all of the tools you need for the way the NHL is trending. A point producing machine that creates instant offense every time he touches the puck. Once he is fully grown, he should have numerous hundred-point seasons and be a top 5 player in the league. There really isn’t a ceiling for Hughes and the floor is much higher than I think people realize. The Devils can’t pass on Hughes.
| - | A lot of people's number 1 ranked player and for good reason. I see a lot of Auston Matthews in Kakko. A big strong player very hard to knock off the puck that can flat out score and make plays. He plays wing right now but there’s a lot of people that think he can transition to center. We’ll see how the Rangers handle him but he should have success either way and be in their top 6 from the start.
| - | This pick will be between Byram and Turcotte. The hawks ultimately take the hometown kid who at times was the best player for the ntdp over the likes of Hughes. He didn’t stay healthy for a lot of the season but on a point per game basis he was fantastic only behind Hughes. People like to make the Toews comparison and for good reason. I would say sacrifice some of the size but add more skill and creativity and keep the compete level and two-hundred-foot play of Toews and you have Turcotte.
| The Avs will have to wait till their 16th pick or free agency to get forward help because they can’t pass on Byram. Far and away the best defensive prospect in this draft putting up ridiculous offensive totals in the WHL this season. They will have a lot of options for what they want to do building around Makar and Byram on the back end, with Mackinnon and Rantanen up front.
| - | Kings tKings type player here big strong center with fantastic vision and skill. Basically, like Getzlaf or Johansen if he pans out. The Kings like the big slow ones so they’ll take Dach here. Cozens may be the choice as well.
| - | The Red Wings had scouts present at nearly every ntdp home game. They’ve seen up close what a special talent Zegras is. He has eyes in the back of his head and the most creativity of any player in the draft. He can make plays that most other players would never even think of. This is a player the wings are desperate for as outside of Larkin there isn’t too much excitement in their current forward group. Adding Zegras to the crop of Zadina and Veleno gives the wings a ton of excitement.
| - | Buffalo will want their own Debrincat here and select Caufield. The league is finally realizing to not look at size as the end all be all and Caufield at 7 is fantastic for the league. With Skinner and Caufield in the top 6 there’s 70-90 goals right there.
| - | Cozens is the pick for the Oilers. Assuming they don’t screw up his development he’ll give them plenty of options of how to round out their top 9 forwards. Big lanky center who skates very well for his size. Had a nice year leading Lethbridge in points with 84 and had a nice showing at the u18 as well. May be NHL ready but the Oilers should most likely give him at least one more year in junior
| - | The ducks have gone forward heavy the past few drafts and have some nice young forwards in Steel, Terry, Lundestrom and Comtois. I think they add a defenseman here and since they love swedes itll come down to the safety of Soderstrom or the upside of Broberg. Since their d-core looks a little rough outside the top 3 they take the safety of Soderstrom.
| - | The canucks go with the flashy high-end speed and skill of Newhook. Should be able to join their top 6 forward group in 2-3 years. A top line of Newhook Pettersson and Boeser sounds pretty exciting.
| - | The flyers could probably go with a defenseman here but choose to add to their forward depth with the high upside of Podkolzin. Frost Farabee and Podkolzin give them three nice forwards to add to Patrick and Konecny as the future core forwards for them.
| - | Krebs slides a little bit due to his injury and gives the Wild a nice forward to start rebuilding with as they continue to age and get worse. Plays a similar style game to Zach Parise.
| - | The panthers have plenty of forward talent and more on the way. They take a shot on landing a Victor Hedman type player if everything goes right for him in Broberg. A very low ceiling with this pick but they take the chance.
| - | Boldy falls to the yotes because I hope he does. He should be in the Yotes top 6 forward group as soon as he’s nhl ready. Very skilled forward with nice size and goal scoring ability. Fantastic on the powerplay and very creative in the offensive zone. Excellent stick skills and a shifty skater. Has the ability to be a 70-80 point player at his ceiling.
| - | Montreal is desperate for a left handed puck moving defenseman. York is a fantastic skater and puck mover. Excellent on the powerplay and underrated defensively. York will take 2-3 years to get to the big club but he has an extremely high ceiling.
| - | Lavoie was said to be the best player to come from the Halifax Mooseheads yet. While I don’t agree with that at all he is still a nice player. The last time the Avs took a player from Halifax it worked out pretty well.
| - | The knights are pretty much set for a few years with a nice looking roster. They use this pick to grab their goalie of the future.
| - | The stars need some exciting forwards behind Seguin Benn and Radulov. They take the risk of Kaliyev who may end up being the biggest steal of the draft or never figure out that there is a defensive zone in hockey.
| The senators could choose to go any direction here. They choose to add to their forward depth with Ryan Suzuki. A player with a lot of untapped upside who was much more highly touted at the beginning of the year. He’s been called the smartest player in this draft and may have a huge season in the OHL next year. He could be a steal.
| Winnipegs pick.Winnipeg chooses to add another defenseman to help replacing trouba. Left handed shot very good offensive numbers. Needs to work on all around game.
| - | Penguins decide to add help to their blue line with the big German who had a nice showing of his potential at the world championships.
| The kings add a solid left the handed shooting defenseman who does everything well after getting what they think is their new cornerstone center in the draft. Heinolas a bit on the smaller side but can skate and move the puck. He is being called a poor mans Heiskanen.
| - | Very dangerous offensive player. Skilled and smart. Could compliment Barzal well in the future as he can put the puck in the net. This pick adds another promising and flashy forward along with Wahlstrom.
| - | Fast and skilled center who plays with a lot of passion and energy. Could be the consistent number 2 center the predators have been looking for.
| - | Big solid with skill. Led Sherbrooke in points by a nice margin. Washington adds a solid player to retool their forward group if they choose to.
| - | Big strong shut down d to help this roster fill some holes and get take them farther in the playoffs. Possibly more offensive upside to come.
| - | Seems like a player the lightning would draft. Lot of points in the whl. A little under the radar probably turn out really good.
| - | The hurricanes stay on the Russian train and add Drofeyev. Should get a chance to have a bigger role in the KHL next season. Had excellent numbers in the MHL.
| A lot of flash and flare in the undersized Swedish forward. The ducks love their swedes and choose to add more excitement to their forward prospect pool.
| - | Seems like a Bruins type of pick. Quietly led the London Knights in points this year. Has to go in the first round somewhere just for that alone.
| Lassi Thompson | Buffalo chooses to add the nice Finnish prospect out of the WHL to their blue line after grabbing a forward earlier. He is set to play in Liiga next year. |
