My potential leafs lineup for next season. A little over the top considering its coming from a leafs fan but I tried to keep it as real as possible. Lets start off with the signings. Steven Stamkos signs a long term 10 million dollar deal with the leafs. The reason I don't have it at a higher cap hit is because he past with blood clots. They are a rare occurrence in the nhl and can really destroy a players career. Most teams in the league could not afford to pay stamkos that kind of money for that term should he need to retire. The leafs are one of the few teams that can take that risk. Pa Parenteau has been long rumoured to want to resign with the leafs. I believe based on his 20 goal season his value sits somewhere in the 2-3 million range. His added experience in the league is something the leafs are looking for as they fill the lineup with rookies. Jimmy Vesey is almost a 50/50 shot that he signs with the leafs or bruins. Should he sign with leafs he would fill a top 9 role on the left side behind guys like jvr and Milan Michalek. I personally do not believe Calgary can afford to take on a contract like Marc Andre Fleurys. With 21.6 million in cap space they need to resign some key players like Gaudreau, Monahan and Colborne. At this time a 5.75 million cap hit is not in the best interest for Calgary to absorb. Hunwick was the odd man out on defense. With the young guys the leafs have in the system capable of playing in the nhl next season, some space needs to be made to let the young guys play. The Vatanen trade was a difficult one to work out. In order to get a young defender the leafs are going to have to give up a good young prospect. I tried not to give up too much for Vatanen which is why I swapped a late 1st for a late 2nd. Reason being is Anaheim doesnt have much choice but to trade one of lindholm or Vatanen because of the upcoming expansion draft. Trading Bieksa would be extremely difficult so if you're the ducks you have to take whatever you can get or you risk losing him for nothing. Ottawa gets some needed help behind Turris. Looking through the rosters I thought Ottawa was a very good possible destination for bozak seeing the help they need up the middle. Early to middle second round pick for Bozak is what I would call "fair value". The leafs now get a starting goalie again from a team needing to get rid of a player. With that trade you are throwing a bunch of maybes at Anaheim (Harrington having the biggest potential to play in the nhl). The pick would have been a third had it not been for the third round picks the leafs needed to give up for lou and babcock signings. Again with this trade, Anaheim is at risk of losing Andersen for nothing in the upcoming expansion draft which is the reason why his value is low.
