Devils fan here:
1. Giving Will Butcher that contract right now seems pretty steep considering this past year.
2. There's been a lot of talk about Wayne Simmonds having a down year. Can't imagine him wanting to come to NJ, but even if he did, he has a lot of red flags considering the style he plays and his poor stats last year. The 4 million term is probably fine, but the term is probably too long. I'd rather bring back Johansson, who had the same amount of points in fewer games and has had a nice playoff.
3. Jason Zucker is a good pick up.

This does nothing to improve the Devils struggling defense. Right wing is still incredibly weak. Joey Anderson is not a 2nd line winger, there is a slight chance he could become one in the future, but right now he's 4th liner at best.

He's going to get at least $4m, but it's slightly over. I think 4 x $4m – or they think he's going to get a lot better and try to lock him in for 6 years at a good number.
