Why on earth would they buy him out? They'd lose him as a player and still have the same cap hit, which seems like a damn fool move to me....

Edit: Also, hard no from me as a Sharks fan. I love him, I'll welcome him back on a one day contract to retire in teal, but other than that, no. Thank you, but no. We need need to be spending our limited money on young, fast players.

I never said it would be toronto buying him out he could get the orpik treatment, and you have many good prospects I just feel most of them need 1 more year so marleau is a perfect stopgap

I think that you're overlooking one very important factor in Marleau's career - he's on a 35+ contact. Anyone who buys him out swallows his entire cap hit, no two ways about it. Orpick was not on a similar contract so it made sense in his case. Regardless of if it's the Leafs or some other team (lol, doesn't he have a NMC?), buying him out is going to net you the salary cost without the player attached to it.

San Jose doesn't want him back on the ice. Sorry, not sorry.

A team team with enough cap space next season might do it and he can always just go back to toronto

Okay, but honestly, can you give me one good reason why they would? And also, can you tell me what team has $6,250,000 in cap space to just flush down the toilet like that?

Why would they do that? Carolina made it to the 3rd round this year - they're going to be looking to build on that, not regress. Colorado is in a similar situation where they're trying to build the depth they'll need to go past the 2nd round & build around some incredible young talent. To the best of my knowledge, Jersey is going to be trying to build a team that Hall will want to stay on and that could be contenders in a couple of seasons.

And all of this is assuming that Marleau would be willing to waive his NMC to be traded to any of those teams, which is unlikely. He wants a cup & has hitched his wagon to the Leaf's star to get there - not to mention, Christina would likely kill him if he tried to move her and the kids again.

Regardless, this is a ridiculous line of thought that has nothing to do with the Sharks who 100% do not want Marleau back. Patty had his chance to stay in teal and he didn't take it. Sorry, nope. Come back for one day or not at all.

Adding cap when you literally have no use for it next season isnt taking a step backwards, and theres no reason he wouldnt waive to be bought out knowing he has 30 teams to choose from

Whatever you say man, I just know there's no way he's coming back to San Jose.
