The idea here is to see what the roster can do with as few moves as possible.
Brown to the Oilers has been rumored and commented, but he can go to any team really as a 3-4th line PKer.
Kappy takes 1 million on a bridge a la Johnsson last year, and because there just isn't any extra money in the budget. He can choose to be a Leaf or not, but if he is then he's around for the part of the Marleau savings next year.
Johnsson signs a reasonable deal for an inconsistent complimentary player. It takes him to UFA, so the leafs will try for 4 instead.
That bottom pair and Petan are not ideal, but they work with the cap moreso than anyone else.
The leafs also have extra cap space because 1) Hyman will be out the first two months and replaced with an ELC
2) Dermott will be replaced by a cheaper defender while he is out.
