What I think an ideal off-season would look like for us.
McAvoy contract: sort of similar to the Matt Dumba contract, a long, good money contract for a 1RD.
Carlo contract: He has really come into his own this year and a good comparable for this contract is the Shea Theodore contract
Heinen contract: Similar to the Miles Wood contract
Cehlarik contract: identical to the Trevor Moore extension
JFK contract: a prove it contract
Eberle signing: Eberle is incredibly skilled and a great offensive threat when on the ice. The contract capitalized on the fact that he had a down year and we will most likely take less than he’s worth because of that
Backes trade: a cap dump where Minny can continue their retool
Killer trade: it hurts, it really does to trade him away but he will most likely be a cap causality but in New Jersey he can be a good veteran presence and “bodyguard” of the younger, smaller kids (Jack Hughes comes to mind)
Nordstrom trade: clearing roster space for Blidh to hang out as a healthy scratch to come in case of injuries (they extended him so they must have a plan for him)
Lines:
F Line 1: no comment
F Line 2: Debrusk-Krejci have chemistry that we are aware of and I think Eberle would fit in great on this line.
F Line 3: Heinen and Coyle have shown some real chemistry and I think keeping them together is smart. Studnicka is the wild card. I’m very high on him and think he’s going to be an amazing player, and personally I think he has the skill to be in the NHL right now. But, just because I think it doesn’t mean it’s true. If he is ready though, then this line could be a real kicker.
F Line 4: Kuraly and Acciari are great together. Kuhlman has been impressive with the big club and imo has earned a spot on the roster. If I’m being totally honest though, Acciari, Kuhlman, Wagner and Blidh are all interchangeable.
D Line 1: Grzelcyk has been AMAZING this year and with more ice time and a better linemate in McAvoy, I think he can unlock his full potential.
D Line 2: these two have proven they are good together.
D Line 3: an interesting combo that I think could potentially work out, and if not you have Moore chilling on the bench too.
Goalies: yes
