3 bad contracts for 1 bad contact, it’s not worth it

It's a smart idea. But there's no way OTT agrees to that "we'll trade you somewhere for 50% retained". But they could still do that deal. I'm also assuming Gaborik and MAcArthur stay on LTIR for their careers.

Here is the problem. Ottawa trades 16.725 mil for 3 mil, Lucic's retention,and is ~ 31 mil away from the cap floor. MacArthur and Gaborik are necessary for them to reach the floor.

2 contracts are on the LTIR for the remainder of term. Ryan could be a useful player.



I think if you told Melnyk how much money you could save him by taking the 3 other contracts back it may tickle his fancy. I don’t think Lucic would accept the trade if he had to stay in Ottawa. By all accounts it seems like MacArthur and Gaborik are done as far as playing hockey goes.

Once they are placed on LTIR do they count towards cap floor?

LTIR can only be used if you are over the cap. MacArthur and Gaborik are not on the LTIR..
