That might be tempting for Flyers with money retained on Lucic and that 1st round pick could be a top 5 pick, as the Oilers might not be better next year.

Edmonton gets out of the Lucic contract, for the most part.
Wayne Simmonds can be treated as a "rental" if needed, and he at least gets a chance to play with McDavid for the rest of the season if he doesn't want to stay after this year.
The Flyers do potentially get a high pick next year, but an extra first rounder either way, and they get a good piece to work with Hart. Decent 1-2 punch in goal compared to what they have. Wins all around, and PHI has the cap space to keep the 4.5 going through the remainder of the Lucic deal if they have to. IMO anyway

Elliott > Talbot
Simmonds > 1st round pick
Taking on Lucic is definitely a negative

Don’t see this trade helping the Flyers at all

This move can't include Simmonds. I'm not opposed to the Flyers using their cap space to get quality assets. But Simmonds could be getting a 1st and a 3rd on his own in a separate deal.

Lucic at 4.5, Talbot and an unprotected 1st rd pick for Elliott? I can at least consider that. I see the pros and cons of such a deal.

simmonds likely gets a 1st on his own. talbot/elliot is a bit of a wash, but edmonton gets rid of lucic for free?

get rid of simmonds in the deal and it makes more sense.

Elliott > Talbot

Flyers (management or fans) + goaltending situation = dumpster fire.

One of the better young goalies in the league, solid AHL goalie, other goalie prospects coming over, unwanted veteran goalies on expiring contracts. It’s been rough but I think we’ll be alright now

As for what you quoted, Elliott put up a respectable .911SV%. Before getting hurt he was second among starters in save percentage above expected only behind Lehner. Not his fault he was playing behind a team that couldn’t defend to save their lives. We also don’t need the cap space so I’d want something extra in a one for one swap for Talbot

Talbot and Hart apparently already have a positive relationship. Dumping one unimpressive UFA goalie for another, if it means a better mentor for your young stud... it's worth doing.

YOU would probably do a better job in the playoffs than Elliot. Moving him for a 7th probably makes the Flyers outlook improve.

Playoffs doesn’t mean anything lol. Both teams aren’t making it, both goalies, unless traded somewhere else, will not see the playoffs. Not to mention that Elliott’s “****ty” playoff numbers are better than Talbot’s numbers this year. Let’s not even talk about Elliott’s numbers this season. And if any of them would re-sign in Philly and we would make the playoffs next year, Hart will be the starter so playoffs still wouldn’t matter. If Hart plays bad, we’ll be eliminated before these guys would even get a start

As for the actual trade, Elliott for nothing is more beneficial to the Flyers than Elliott for Talbot. They have 5-6 goalies at the NHL and AHL level (nobody knows what’s going on with Neuvirth). What they NEED to do is get rid of a goalie, not bring one back. Especially not one with a 4 million dollar cap hit. Edmonton NEEDS cap space. They NEED something from us or another team. They aren’t in a position of strength. No smart team would help them out for free. You say Talbot is a good mentor Hart, I’d say Hart is doing pretty good without him. Not having Talbot for these last 25 games won’t kill him. If the team wants Talbot, they can always sign him on July 1st. Long story short, if the deal is actually Talbot for Elliott and we’re not getting something along with Talbot, whether it’d be a mid round pick or lower tier prospect, I won’t be happy with the trade

EDIT: and I literally forgot, I definitely won’t be happy with taking on Lucic like the trade above suggests
