Description
A slight variation on Brenfox's well thought out ideas https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/199653&post_id=733260

I know we ran into a hot goalie last night, but some of Babcock's decisions are getting hard to witness. Someone needs to sit him down, tell him to be a gud pro, and to stop being so rigid and stubborn... the definition of insanity, or something like that..

And if Babcock can't get this talented team to the next level, and get past the 1st round this year, then I think one offseason trade solves most of the leafs current on ice problems... Babs for Coach Q. Straight up. One for one.

I would have to agree I don't think they are enjoy playing for him. Im sick and tired of seeing that fourth line will all that talent we have. I know it was a back to back and the looking for a new fourth line center I don't get it.

Our 4th line was fine again last night, after being our best line vs Montreal. The Goat is a sufficient 4th line centre making league minimum, we're going to need him next year so get used to it. He wins tons of puck battles and as you know he has been chipping in with the odd point.

Our issue is certainly not how babs uses the 4th line/who is on it. It's the stubbornness to not change any of the top 9, and keep playing Patty and Brown all the time. When the 4th line is losing us games that's when a change is needed but they've won the 4th line battle almost every night.

im not saying that the fourth line is bad or not doing there job, I'm saying he should be playing the top lines more give them more ice time they are young they can handle it.

Yeah I agree, he chases line matches way too hard, although at 5v5 all of the 4th liners are around 8:30 TOI/GP, which isn't horrible.

they shouldn't even see the ice what are you line matching you want to be making 11M a season you should be able to play against anybody in the league. Then the fourth line facing the top lines should be making the money. I cant stand it.

Yeh, I fully expect to see pigs fly before Babs plays a Dert/Z pairing above Gards/Hainsey, but if he would even just to go to three pairings that have had some proven chemsitry/success together that would be a pretty massive 1st step for him. If Dert/Z had equal time to Gards/Hainsey I know where I'd bet my nickle on which pair would have greater success

I remember reading a quote from Babcock saying something along the lines that Marleau makes you a better person just by walk by you.. or something like that. Maybe babs would listen, if Marleau sat Babs done and told him it was time to rethink the lines..

The issue is Reilly and Gardiner we’re both at 25 min and everyone else was at 15-18min. I still stick to my guns that D pairs would be better this way...

Reilly-Zaitsev (yet another flawless game last night by Z)
Dermott-Muzzin (I know that Gards replaces Dermott)
Gardiner-Oz (give hainsey a break and split 50/50)

Top pair 24 min
2nd pair 22 min
3rd pair 14 min

Gards gets PP time.

I don't know if they don't enjoy playing for him just yet, he's earned alot of respect, but I bet there is some frustration creeping in with some of his decisions. No one likes when they're subjected to a double standard, and it seems pretty clear to me there are two different sets of expecations/rules in place for Babcocks favorites vs the rest

That could very well work too. I guess I'm starting to think of it like this... sure, they lost last night, and you can add that up to a hot goalie, puck luck, whatever... but in a paralell universe somewhere the coach makes some changes pre/mid game and a different outcome is possible.. or, it wouldn't matter at all, in which case the coach ain't as important to the outcome of a game as one might think and should stop trying to overcoach things...

I understand everyone is a little angry about losing to a crappy rangers team, but I think every player (except prob marleau and brown) looked like they were trying. And hey if the efforts there and they got like 55 shots or whatever it was I'm okay with that. It's the games against Colorado, Detroit and Nashville where every single player looked like they didn't give a crap, that's what makes me angry.. the lack of effort

Oh, I agree with this 100%. Just given how fickle us leaf fans can be, I'm trying to gently judge the general blame away from specifc players and shift it to a possibility that babcock could be making better choices. I mean, I think we've gone 6-3-1 in the last 10. The wheels aren't coming off the bus, but a couple wheel nuts might be loose..??

Yeah that's a fair assessment 100%
