Description
Using this to communicate realistic expectations...see a lot of unrealistic ideas on here.

Aho:

If Aho signs for 8 years...that deal will need to be done at a realistic Cap Hit % based on other players coming out of an ELC and a similar points per game and numbers. Aho is projected to finish his ELC around 0.85 points per game. Players at this level signing long term deals (7-8 years) sign for 11-12% of cap hit (Franchise player levels). This puts Aho at 8 for 9.5M AAV (11.5% of projected cap hit). Highly unlikely, but if a shorter term deal (5-6 years) were done, that would put that figure around 10% cap hit, or around 8.3M AAV.

Teuvo:

Teuvo is coming off a bridge deal, is still 24 and RFA, averaging around 0.57 points per game. His deal likely to be in the 5-6 year range at around 5.7 or 5.8 M AAV.

If we could get Aho signed for Under 8 that would be great.

Won’t happen if the deal is anything more than 2-3 year bridge. Unlikely that is the way either side wants.

Marner is on pace to score 30+ points more than Aho and wants the same money. Aho won't get 9.5 million. 8.5 looks more realistic to me.

Anything is possible, including Aho at 9.5 and Marner asking for more. The historical numbers support my figures at the terms provided.

They do, but we've recently seen a trend where players are taking less than what they could be making. Scheifele at .86 PPG took 8.4% of the cap ceiling. Pastrnak at .93 PPG took 8.9% of the cap. Gaudreau at .99 PPG took 9.2% of the cap. Draisaitl at .94 PPG took 11.3% of the cap. Eichel at .96 PPG took 12.6% of the cap. Barkov at .89 PPG took 8.1% of the cap. Those are in the final ELC year. Those are the closest comparisons and the ones that I assume you used. 9.5 is the expected average, but it could be anywhere from Gaudreau (8 million adj) to Eichel (11.7 adj). I doubt he'll demand Eichel money, but I could be wrong. I tend to lean towards a 8.5-9 million deal which is just under what Kucherov got. (Albeit on a 24-26 contract)

Fair enough- the point is people can’t expect 8 years at 7M AAV which is what I’ve seen in some cases. Maxing out the years does funny things to the contracts. My point was trying to demonstrate there is a way to look at a players market and expecting less than market value (especially in a place like Carolina) is not very likely.

Yeah and I've seen as low 7-7.5 over 8 years. Which is crazy. Carolina isn't in a cap crunch and Aho isn't a 5'9" LW. He's a 1C. Which is why I find it interesting that Leafs fans think Matthews will take 10.5-11.5 million. He's worth 13.5 million and he's not taking more than a 1 million discount. Marner should get 11-12 million but fans think he'll take 8.5-9.5. It's not happening. Somehow fans think players will take huge discounts to help out the cap situation.

Leafs are in trouble without Tavares And Nylander taking team friendly deals. Why would The other guys do it? It’s a rash that spreads either positively or negatively.
