wings aren't making the playoffs, so it's two second rounders, about 40 and 70. jets still need trouba for a playoff run next year so unless their is a player that helps them right now, trouba is a jet for one more year. having a player leaving as a ufa, doesn't worry good teams.

Can't imagine the Wings exhausting assets on Trouba when he'd likely be a UFA after that year

That squad could def make the playoffs next year. Besides Toronto and Tampa, the East is wide open

I hear that, certainly considered it but the feeling being if most the young guys take another step this year, they get lucky and get a good draft pick like Dach they can kind of get aggressive to fill their last big need (RH 1D) instead of waiting another year. They'd have the team and depth already in place to deal some future assets at that point imo. And despite being Trouba's hometown, there's no guarantee he would end up in DET if he hit unrestricted free agency.

Fair enough. I can see how they would want to pursue him a year earlier, especially if we have another good draft and the prospects continue to progress. After a few years of missing the playoffs, Kenny will get anxious and possibly make some moves to become competitive. Especially after Jimmy D a few weeks ago said we weren’t going to sit back and be passive in the rebuild.
