The Oilers need more affordable top nine scoring and more LD prospects with their RD positions seemingly set for the foreseeable future. They also need space for both Bear and Bouchard to play and the dispensable player would then be Benning for whom they could trade and address their top nine scoring deficit. Ritchie would be on a very affordable contract for two years, and they could afford to sign him with their current cap space combined with a cap raise, the expiring Brodziak, Kassian, and Rattie contracts, and the expiring Gryba buyout (which isn't much but still helps). The only other signings would be strome, who wouldn't get much of a raise, Caggiula, who on a fourth line role probably wouldn't either, and Nurse, who they would have around 3-5 million left to give him a raise. I think this is a small move that would benefit the Oilers without making any radical changes. I'm open to criticism though. I know how some Oilers fans feel about Benning.
