if you do your research, you'll find out that the maximum term an offer sheet is calculated over is 5 years. Take 8.5, multiple by 7, and then divide that figure by 5. You get 11.9 million. Four 1st rounders.

Learn rules properly.. every amount is recounted on 5yr term which means that 8.5x7=59.5mil total devided by 5yrs makes it 11.9mil per and that is 4 1st rounders compensation..

Uh you'd have to give up 4 1sts, you can't get him for free, and even that won't happen because offer sheets are done.

Lose their minds? More like laugh. FIrst off, the Isles can't do it. If you scroll up and take a look at your post, you'll see the Isles don't have their 2nd or 3rd round pick. Both are needed.

Then contemplate that you've give up two top 10, maybe top five draft picks, along with a good second and a good third, for five years of an overpaid 60 point winger, only to see him be a UFA in 5 years when the Isles maybe are starting to get good again.

I'm a bruins fan, and I would hate it if this happened, because it would be a huge win for the leafs.
