They don't necessarily have to agree to a trade - both NTCs are modified.

Abdelkader: CLAUSE DETAILS: NTC in 2016-17 to 2019-20; Modified NTC in 2020-21 to 2022-23 (If Detroit misses playoffs or Abdelkader is not among the Top 9 F in TOI, he can be traded to any team - clause resets in each of the last 3 years)

Nielsen: CLAUSE DETAILS: Modified-NTC: 10 team no trade list

Noticed I retained significant salary on both. Abby at 2.25 and Nielsen at 2.75 entirely reasonable cap hits

Yeah i'm pretty sure that Montreal is on Nielsens 10 team no trade list. They're garbage You're not Ken Holland. First off no way would Holland retain close to half on both Abdelkader and Nielsen for 5 and 4 years respectively. Holland doesn't believe on retaining on long term deals he wouldn't move Howard for that very reason. Rebuilding teams just don't do things like this.

You think Kenneth is really in line with rebuild mode? Look for more over the hill vets next year.

Okay? Then add one of the other 21 teams that Nielsen doesn't have to waive for? Also, this is a 2020-2021 team, so Abby and Nielsen details are being retained for 2 and 3 years.

Oops my bad yeah it is 2002/2021 so 3 and 2 years respectively.

Yeah hopefully he takes the new Seattle expansion team. Don't wants him around after these last two years.
