This would be great for the Oilers, but, unless they plan to lock Rutherford in a room somewhere until he signs off on it, it's definitely not going to happen. The Penguins don't even consider.

Why would the pens ever consider moving Crosby?
In like 5-6 years or something, it may be worth it. I'm not sure how much longer they can contend for a Cup for, as Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel are all over 30, and their cap situation is bad enough that they could start to lose significant depth (for example, Guentzel is an important playoff performer, and they likely don't have space to re-sign him without losing Hagelin and Brassard, and then Murray and DeSmith are going to need raises too, so there's no way they can keep them all without ELCs filling literally every other spot, and I don't think their prospect situation is good enough for that to be successful). In 5-6 years, Crosby will still have significant value, but probably will not be one of the best players in the League. If the Penguins aren't Cup contenders anymore at that point, which is likely, I think it may be worth it for them to move him to a contender in need of an experienced, veteran leader who can also score, in exchange for high draft picks and top prospects and such. There's no reason for them to keep Crosby if they're not Cup contenders, when they could help secure their future. That being said, if the Oilers are offering McDavid right now, I think the Penguins have something to think about. It would destroy their chemistry, but it gets them a much younger player who is scoring at a similar rate to Crosby. From the Oilers side, that's a horrible trade, though. There's no reason for them to trade McDavid for a significantly older player who, at this point, will most likely end up scoring less than McDavid. Not to mention that he's the face of their franchise (as is Crosby for the Penguins). Even Chiarelli isn't that bad....
