Agreed that the price for Patch is too low. Even if its at the deadline when the price is lower, it will still have to be a first+good prospect, but it wont have to include a roster players per se.
I am hoping that They might be able to trade Roy for good value. He still is considered a valuable prospect but looks less and less likely to find a spot on the sharks blueline with Ryan ahead of him and Ferraro looking studly. Not to mention the nice development of Simek and Middleton.
I think the sharks will not make a move until december at the earliest. That gives them complete flexibility to see what their needs are, what prospects develop well and which stumble, if there are any game-changing injuries, and by the deadline, their roughly 5M in cap space (after resigning tierney), will be closer to 10-15M, far more than enough to add multiple pieces if they want to. Making the trade now as opposed to the deadline is only better for getting the first 50-60 games of the season.
For me, waiting makes sense. I'd rather triple my cap space, get a much better understanding of how good gambrell, balcers, suomela, praplan, Roy, and others are, and get a lower price from more desperate other teams that have to make those trades. If the sharks were likely out of the playoffs given their roster, then it would make sense to act now. But, the current roster is very likely to easily make the playoffs (its better than the roster at the start of last year), so it's just not essential to move now.
