Leaving the D as is is going to be a hard sell after it fell flat last year.
Why sign T. Plekanec for 3.5 mil, he should cost way less and I'd rather spend the 3.5 to increase an offer for someone like Stastny.

The Habs have a ton of Cap Space to jump on guys like Perron, Neal, JvR for wingers and could still ship Patche's out for a center

Don't want Perron, Neal.... Wouldn't say no to JVR but we already have the wingers and Patches won't get us a top 6 center because the other teams are waiting for us with their greedy little paws out.
You won't get Plek for less. He will receive bigger contracts from other teams.

Patches with one year left may not get you a top 6 center that is signed long-term. So you may have to target other pending UFAs like Matt Duchene.

So you get Duchene, who costs more than Patches, but you lose the winger he could team up with.

This could work if we sign 2 offensive wingers in UFA from the trio of JVR, Neal and Perron, but there is no guarantee we hold onto Duchene long.

Don't want Duchenes either, way overated. And I'm not saying I want Plek, just saying that they'll sign him. We need top 6 centers and their's none to be found on this clus ( Drouin ain't NO center ). We could try for Stasny but it would take a 4 to 5 yrs contract to sign him, way too long.
