Most trade ideas I have seen involving the Sabres separating from Ryan O'Reilly have been dismal. The Sabres need point production. Point production is not improved by trading away players that produce points.

id trade ROR and lehner for J skinner and v rask . either get a conditional pick if he doesnt re sign or convince him to sign extension to play on eichels wing the next 5-7 years. add to much needed LW depth and Rask can llay C#2 this year then mittelstadt takes over after rookie season

Carolina needs a goaltender to replace Cam Ward. Ward is moving on from Carolina. Lehner can get a fresh start with Carolina to backup Scott Darling.

thats what im saying, i think he’s actually a decent goaltender and have yet to see the best of him. i do however think his time in Buffalo is up, hes a Tim murray guy and i think Botterill will look for a new starter or a stop gap til Ullmark or UPL are ready for starting duties. may as well trade his rights to a goaltender needy team and get something in return. a ROR lehner package deal with carolina i think is perfect for both teams. i believe lehner would beat out scott darling in carolina for the starting Goalie spot

Lehner is a Tim Murray player indeed. The Sabres needed a goaltender. The Ottawa Senators had Craig Anderson, Brian Elliott, and Lehner. Murray made the trade to get Lehner to fill a need.
