The reasoning behind this mock roster is, other than being in the market for a top 4 RD, I don't believe this management group is interested in paying a premium for defense. I can see them resigning most if not all of our RFA's, but the only real glaring holes in the current day lineup is at C and RD. The current batch of FA's doesn't look promising for RD's and I'm convinced this management group wants to give the younger defensive prospects a chance to win jobs. Tavares makes the most sense, in that, he's a superstar veteran in his prime, something I think we were lacking last season. Yes, it will cost, but the cost is worth it in my opinion. Even if his contract costs 11M over 7 years, we should still be able to resign the big 3 and stay under the cap. However, I'm sure there will be some casualties, but the core will remain and the vacancies can all be filled with younger players in the system.
