Hossa for Bolland makes absolutely no sense, overpayment on Chicago's side for Faulk, Tkachuk could possibly be taken later and Zadina is the better choice, the trade for 3rd overall is a way overpayment, and Tavares is a no.

Rumor is MTL was in love with Tkachuk at the combine, but I agree with the rest

The Bolland for Hossa deal is perfect sense. It's basically a logistics trade. Both players will be on LTIR this year, however, Arizona would like the deal because Hossa's contract gets them to the cap floor for 3 seasons as opposed to Bolland's 1 year. Plus Hossa is only owed 1 mil in cash for the next 3 years = 3 mil total whereas Bolland is owed 5.5 in cash for one season. So Zona saves actual cash while helping their cap floor problem.

LOL at signing Tavares.....

Also,

Hossa does not affect the Hawks cap this summer at all

Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

No it's not....

Hossa's contract doesn't prevent the Hawks from spending Hossa's cap hit this summer..

Once again the reason they would make this trade with Arizona is to avoid the hassle for another 2 offseasons and hey in the long shot Billand can be healthy for playoffs they can use him without cap penalty in the postseason.

The hassle? there is no hassle......... Hossa's contract does not affect the Hawks cap situation at all...... For all intents and purposes Hossa doesn't count against the cap..

There is no need to trade Hossa, and if a team wants him for the cap benefits then they will have to give up something of value....... What is a 4.275 "cap coupon" worth??? 2nd round pick?

I mean you understand what I'm saying right? that Hossa doesn't count against the salary cap this summer because Bowman can go 10% over the salary cap, just as long has he's cap compliant by the first day of the regular season....

So the Hawks have 18-20 million to spend this summer because Hossa's 5.275 cap hit technically doesn't count....
