way too much money for Green. And the Hoffman trade is less than ideal - it just creates another hole while getting rid of a top-3 prospect in the system at a position that is our weakest.

Green is still a good defensman and by going high on cap you can go low on term. Hoffman is an great goalscorer ande they are expansive. But tbh Myers is the only asset that stings to loose. Simmonds is declining and is worth more in a trade then on the roster imo and 1st rounders is overrated.

What do you think of the Spezza idea?

Is Simmonds really declining? 24 goal season and he was playing on a bad groin and broken hand. I don't mind moving picks either I agree but the value in that deal just doesn't make sense. We are giving up Myers and a 1st for what? Maybe two or three more goals per year for two more seasons? That isn't ideal. Green just had surgery on his spine and is expected to take two months + of recovery so I think the cap space could be better spent on someone who isn't a black hole at ES and injured. Idk that's just my thoughts.

For Spezza I that's not an awful idea but I want the team to be better is the issue. This is more so keeping the "status quo" essentially. We change Filp to Spezza, Simmonds to Hoffman, and Leivo to replace Lehtera. All while losing 4 draft picks and a top-30 prospect in the NHL. Seems like we're breaking even or losing overall. If you think the difference between the players going out and coming back is worth a 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th then I'm not here to say you're wrong, but why not just resign Filp to a two year cheap deal or something and invest the extra $4M into something actually good.

From the beginning of training camp, Simmonds had a "torn pelvis."

I think that Hoffman is a better 5v5 player and is a bit more allround. I see him as a 2 year rental. Simmonds is still a good player (even better when healthy) but he's gonna get overpayed by a lot after next year. Powerforwards over 30 is not a good bet. Thats the main reason why I would trade him. But i see your point in Myers. What about replacing him with Morin in the deal?

Filp and Lehtera are not NHL players imo. Spezza had a bad year and could be had cheap. I think he's gonna bounce back to be like a decent 2nd liner. Skip the 3rd rounder? Leivo is a persenal favourite. And underrated. I see him as a low risk move with medium to high potential.

The main gain is the removment of Hakstols (bad) favourites and making room for the young guys like Sandhim, Morin/Myers, Lindblom, Hart.

I still like Green smile

Personally, I'd probably prefer starting with a Tatar type package and work out. 2018 1st, 2019 2nd, 2020 3rd, Rubtsov, and a d prospect like Bernahrdt/Hogberg/Kalynuk. I think Hoff is better 5v5 than Simmer but that's just a ton of value to give up. Like I said we might get a player who scores 4 more goals next season? Is that worth Myers/1st? Lol I'd love to get rid of those favs like you said though! And yeah Green isn't terrible but it's a huge risk at that price but since the term is so short i guess I could live with it haha.

I must say one thing. I didn't know that nice and reasonable people with actual arguments existed on this site. Thank you for your opinions smile

I like your idea so I had to discuss it further. If we were going to trade with OTT I'd love to get Stone over Hoffman but Hoffman might be more in our price range right now. We'll see. Should be a fun offseason!

Well I'm hoping for Stone to my Cayotes so I hope he's out of your price range... But yeah, it should be fun!
