Well, the Hawks needs a bounceback year next year, which is totally possible, so if u believe gettin a few depth guys is going to help, ok

John Carlson will easily command 7 years $56 million on the open market. No way he signs that low.

The problem with this team is that they were too "youthful" this season. I don't have an issue with youth but that youth has to be high end talent. What the Hawks iced this season (outside of DeBrincat and Schmaltz) are young kids that have bottom 6 and #5-6 potential - not top 6 top 4 potential.

Look at the past stanley cup winners. The pittsburgh penguins defence with Brian Dumoulin 26, Olli Maatta 23 Schultz 27 Young inexperienced defence who played above their talent level. these are not top 4 potential in fact Pittsburgh other than Kris Letting doesn't even have top end defence. What they did do is play within their abilities. Unlike Chicago who plays a puck control game pittsburgh relied on chipping the puck out and then just letting their forwards track it down. Their forwards have Young guys like genteel 23, sherry 25, Rust 25 Again youth that is inexperienced and plays above their abilities these again are not top 6 players.

Pittsburgh has written the playbook on how to win the cup.... they are extremely fortunate to have crosby Malkin and Kessel at a low cap hit for their skill level which makes it a little better but its simple high end talent that is surrounded by young guys that play well above their level. Fast and young is the new way to win not experienced big and mean. Chicago is going in the right direction someone like Duclair who has limited experience would excel in the playoffs. With Crawford healthy the haws are a completely different team and likely make the playoffs. They also will bounce back next year. the future is bright on the back end for long to come. Yes the core is aging but every team needs to re stock over time it is very hard to stay elite long term.

When you have a high ceiling inexperience isn't an issue because you're an outstanding player to begin with... Look at Schmaltz and DeBrincat - they're inexperience too but they're also already fantastic players who have above average talent so they're effective.... Outside of Schmaltz & DeBincat the Hawks have little.. The Hawks have bottom 6 players with bottom 6 talent who aren't developed yet - they're not suitable for the roles they're playing just yet. Sure they will be ready in a few years but the Hawks don't have time to wait for them to develop as the core ages....

    See what I'm saying?

Guys like Maatta are already #4 defenseman with #2 talent so they're not a problem because they're already great and they're only going to get better so developing them doesn't hurt your team... But compare that to a guy like Forsling.... Would you trade Maata for Forsling? lol I bet not, why? right, because Maatta is better and he will always be better with both players are fully develop and get the experience they need.... Maatta will be a first pairing defenseman and Forsling - at best - will be a second pairing defenseman.
